Arts and Culture
In June, the Canyon View Credit Union Community and Arts Center opened its doors, providing a 12,700-square-foot space for theater performances, art exhibits, and community gatherings. This center has quickly become a hub for cultural activities, hosting events like the Wasatch Improv Festival in January. Additionally, a striking steel sugar beet sculpture was installed at the arts center, symbolizing the city’s theme of being “rooted in community, growing with purpose.” Veterans Memorial Park also saw the addition of a permanent entertainment stage, enhancing its role as a venue for civic events.
Public Safety Enhancements
The West Jordan Police Department launched a drone program to bolster public safety efforts. The department received accolades from the NAACP and recognized a SWAT operator of the year. Leadership changes included the retirement of Chief Ken Wallentine and the appointment of Jeremy Robertson as the new police chief. The Fire Department introduced Engine 55 to its fleet, aiming to improve emergency response capabilities.
Community Engagement and Services
The city expanded its Wheels Park in September, now accommodating scooters, skateboards, roller skates, balance bikes, wheelchairs, and mountain bikes. This unique facility has become a gathering place for residents of all ages. The Passport Office added American Sign Language and Spanish assistance, earning recognition as a Get Healthy Utah city. Infrastructure improvements included added lanes to roads to enhance east-west connectivity and the introduction of a columbarium at the West Jordan Cemetery, offering families a dignified way to honor loved ones.
